Container Hosting
Guides for SpeedIT Container Hosting: creating containers, making them reachable on the web, networks, backups, monitoring and troubleshooting.
- Container Hosting at a glance: project, containers, volumes and networks With Container Hosting, you run your own containers in a project with fixed resources. Here you will learn the building blocks and find your way around the tabs in the customer area.
- Creating a container: choose an image, configure and start The wizard takes you to a running container in three steps - from our checked catalogue, the Docker Official Images or your own registry. Every image is security-checked before it starts.
- Using a docker-compose template If you already have a docker-compose.yml, the customer area reads variables, volumes, start command and web port from it. You always set passwords yourself.
- Setting environment variables and secrets correctly You configure your containers with environment variables. Mark passwords, tokens and keys as secret - they are stored encrypted and never displayed again.
- Updating containers: installing a new version How to bring a container up to date: security updates of the same version with “Recreate”, a new version via the settings - with a snapshot beforehand and a way back if something goes wrong.
- Importing from docker-compose: several containers in one step Do you use Docker with a docker-compose file? Upload it - we create all services as containers with networks, volumes and variables. This way you move a whole application including its database in one step.
- Making a container reachable on the web: address, SSL, your own domain and access protection Every container can get a web address with an SSL certificate. You can connect your own domain, open your own TCP or UDP ports and restrict access to IP addresses or with a password.
- Networks and firewall: connecting containers and controlling outbound connections Containers in the same network reach each other by name. Internal networks have no internet access, and outbound rules define where your containers may connect to.
- Backup and snapshot: backing up and restoring data Snapshots capture the state of your volumes on the server in seconds, backups are stored encrypted in a separate data centre. Here is how to use both and restore exactly the volumes you need - for example just the database.
- Storage and file browser: managing files in volumes The Storage tab shows all volumes of your project with their size, and you decide which ones are backed up. With the file browser, you upload and download files, edit text files and organise folders - right in the browser.
- Monitoring: statistics, notifications and checks In the Monitoring tab, you see your project’s usage as charts, decide when we notify you by email and, with the Monitoring option, set up your own checks with automatic restart.
- Finding and fixing errors: logs, restart loop and reinstalling If a container does not start or the application reports an error, notes, logs and the history help you find the cause. Recreate and Reinstall bring a container back to a clean state.
- Security in Container Hosting: checks, warnings and quarantine We check images before they start and scan your volumes for malicious code every night. Here is how to respond to a security warning, what quarantine means and how to keep your project secure.
- Security tab: vulnerabilities of all containers at a glance The Security tab summarises the check results of all containers in your project: vulnerabilities by severity, the containers with the most findings, the most dangerous vulnerabilities and a searchable list of all critical and high findings.
- Plan and options: more resources, backup and monitoring In the Plan & options tab, you switch to a larger plan or add exactly what you need: more RAM, CPU, storage, backup, snapshot slots, console and monitoring.
- Resource limits: what happens when memory, CPU and storage are full Memory, CPU, storage and processes of your project are fixed limits. Read what happens when each limit is reached, how to recognise it and how to be warned in time.
