Once your server is set up, the Overview tab shows the Access card with the user, the ready-made SSH command to copy and the stored SSH keys. The IP addresses are in the IP addresses card above.
Retrieving the initial password once
If you chose Generate randomly during setup, the notice Your server is ready appears at the top. This is how you retrieve the password:
- Click Show password once.
- Confirm the prompt. For security you additionally confirm the action with your passkey or your customer area password.
- Copy the password and store it securely, for example in a password manager.
- Close with I have saved the password.
After that the password is deleted on our side - we cannot show it again. The card notes when it was retrieved.
What the password is for
Logging in via SSH is only possible with an SSH key. You need the password for the console in the customer area; with your own user it is not needed for sudo, because sudo does not ask for a password.
Password set yourself
If you set the password yourself, there is nothing to retrieve: we only know a secure hash of it.
Forgot the password?
Log in with your SSH key and set a new password with passwd. If no key is usable either, a reinstallation with new access helps (create a snapshot first) - see also Troubleshooting.
