When your project grows, you extend the server in the Upgrade tab. From top to bottom you will find:
- Additional options - for example book the external backup or increase its retention
- Disk speed - change the tier
- Individual hardware extension - increase CPU cores, memory and disk
- where available a plan change and the upgrade history
Extending the hardware
- Under Individual hardware extension, click Show extension.
- Set the new values with the sliders. The summary shows the monthly difference, the remaining days until the next billing date and the amount due now.
- Confirm the order with costs. You receive a pro-rata invoice up to the next billing date; from then on the new price applies.
CPU and memory: shut down and start again
New CPU cores and more memory only take effect after you have shut down and started the server again - a simple restart (reboot) is not enough. Use Power actions > Shut down and then Start.
More storage
The disk is enlarged while the server is running. Partition and file system inside the server do not grow immediately - how to use the new space is described under Growing partition and file system. The disk can only be enlarged, not reduced. Every additional GB costs the price of your disk speed.
Changing the disk speed
Choose the new tier and click Change tier. A higher tier applies immediately after payment of the pro-rata invoice, a lower one from the next billing date (without credit). The limits apply without a restart in both cases. Details under Disk speed.
