We are on the cusp of an exciting technological transformation that will revolutionise not only our infrastructure but also our customers’ user experience! From 23 to 30 October 2023, we are planning a major server migration, during which all our systems will be moved from the FRA4 data centre - firstcolo GmbH - to the state-of-the-art FRA1 data centre - NTT Global Data Centres.
Why is this relevant to you?
The FRA1 data centre stands out not only for its advanced technology but also for a range of certifications that underline the security and quality of its services:
- DIN EN 50600: A European standard for the safe and highly efficient operation of data centres.
- ISO 9001: Quality assurance at the highest level, ensuring you receive consistently first-class services.
- ISO 27001: A gold standard for information security, to protect your data.
- ISO 50001: Efficient energy management and a contribution to climate protection.
- PCI DSS: Ensures the protection and integrity of credit card transactions.
- Tier 3 in accordance with TIA 942:2010 - Annex G: Security through high availability and redundant system architecture.
These certifications not only guarantee the highest level of data security and availability, but also ensure that we continuously improve in terms of quality and energy management, whilst always complying with the strictest international standards.
How does this affect you?
Whilst we are committed to maximum transparency, we also attach great importance to ensuring that the transition is as seamless as possible for you. The migration is therefore expected to take place between 23 October 2023 and 30 October 2023, between 00:00 and 06:00 each day, in order to reduce outages and other disruptions to an absolute minimum. Any interruptions should last no more than a few minutes and go almost unnoticed.
The most important thing for you to know is that you don’t need to worry about a thing! We will carry out the migration ourselves, and it will take place live via our modern cloud environment, meaning that all systems will be transferred on a one-to-one basis and will only require a brief restart. This means you can benefit straight away from the new performance and eco-friendly systems.
A step towards the future with improved performance and sustainability
At the same time as the server migration, our host systems will be upgraded to provide you with even greater performance. The CPU clock speed of our servers will increase to up to 3.7 GHz (boost 5.4 GHz) (up from a previous maximum of 2.6 GHz), enabling PHP processes, database operations and other applications to run significantly more efficiently.
Furthermore, technological progress will help us to reduce our environmental footprint. The new processors consume just 65W instead of the previous 140W (TDP), which reduces not only our energy consumption but also our operating costs. This enables us to continue offering competitive prices in future whilst acting in an environmentally responsible manner.
Behind the scenes, our storage system is also being migrated to a new environment and modernised to provide even greater reliability and performance.
